Commuting to MLFC by Public Transport

Travelling With Confidence

A lot has been done since the start of the pandemic to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission on all forms of public transport, with operators working hard to keep passengers and their staff safe.

To support those making use of public transport TfL have produced ‘Safer Travel Guidance’. This is part of their commitment to ensuring commuters using public transport are as safe as possible and minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Before travelling by public transport, make sure you’re up to date with the latest Government guidance for travelling, which could vary depending on where you live. Follow the link below to find the update to date Government guidance on using public transport.

Travel by Tube

The nearest tube station to MLFC is St Paul’s, which sits on the Central Line and provides journeys to destinations such as Marble Arch, Liverpool Street Station, Epping and more.

A little further away, but still only a short walk is Bank station. This station sits on the Northern and Waterloo & City underground lines in addition to the Central line and is also part of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) network, making trips between MLFC and Canada Square quick and convenient.

We’d recommend using TfL’s journey planner to understand your journey options, as your options may change depending on your time of travel. You can, however, view tube maps, station information, service updates and step-free routes on the TfL website. We’ve included some key links below.

Travel by Bus

As you’d expect, being in the centre of London, there is an extensive network of local bus services available from MLFC. The majority of bus services around the King Edwards Street site operate along Ludgate Hill and Newgate, providing links to a wide range of destinations.

Due to the large number of bus services across Central London, there isn’t much point in us providing individual timetable information for the local services. Instead, we’d recommend you use a journey planner, as the time or day you’re travelling may change which service you’re better off using, find out more in the ‘Planning a Journey’ section below. If you do still need access to bus timetables in London, however, you can find them on the Transport for London website, using the link below.

Remember… buses in London no longer take cash payments, but you can now pay for single trips on the bus using any contactless payment method, making it even more convenient for those who only use the bus occasionally!

Travel by Train

In Central London we are fortunate to have an Overground Rail system which both crosses and orbits the city, reaching further into the suburbs than the Tube network.  Most of these local lines also connect with the Tube and so provide an easy convenient way of travelling to MLFC.

The nearest train station to King Edward Street is City Thameslink Station where you can get regular connections to Elephant and Castle, Bedford, Sutton, Luton, Brighton and many more. You can also get connecting services to London St Pancras for onward travel to a wide range of local, regional, national, and international locations.

Status Updates

It’s helpful to have information on service level and any disruptions before setting off on your journey. TfL have a really useful Status Update page on their website, allowing you to see any delays or upcoming planned disruptions for travel on all of the public transport in London. Follow the link below to view service status.

Planning a Journey

There are a number of great options available for those looking to plan a journey by public transport, especially in London! There’s no need to spend time flicking through timetables to figure out which services work best for you – online journey planners do all that for you!

Below are some of our recommendations for planning a journey in and around London.

Now available on both Apple and Android devices, TfL have an app which allows you to plan your journey, see live updates on all Tube, Tram, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail lines, explore alternative or step-free routes and even plan your walking/cycling journey!

Paying for a Journey

Paying for journeys in Central London couldn’t be simpler, use your contactless card or mobile device on all bus, Tube, tram, DLR, Overground and most TfL rail services. It makes occasional journeys on public transport really easy and your fares will even be capped so you don’t pay more if you make multiple journeys in one day.

However, if your journey is more regular then you could be making some serious savings on season tickets rather than one off payments. We’ve created a handy ticket guide for London to help you figure out the best ticket for you!
